Michelin restaurants Edinburgh: Four spots with a star in Scotland's capital
"What: Edinburgh-born Martin Wishart is one of Scotland’s most famous chefs and this Leith flagship (he has another restaurant on the shores of Loch Lomond) has held a Michelin star since 2001. It’s not hard to see why: neutral furnishings and thick carpets look sleek and suave, though everyone is here for the sophisticated French-accented interpretations of Scottish ingredients, best sampled by first timers from a tasting menu that might include Orkney scallop with Jerusalem artichoke and sweet potato. There’s also a great-value lunch menu."

The Best Michelin-Star and Luxury Restaurants in Edinburgh
"Edinburgh native Martin Wishart has been cooking up a storm at his eponymous restaurant in Leith for the past 20 years and was awarded a Michelin star in 2001 – retaining it ever since. The classic French cuisine, served in a contemporary dining room, is mouth-watering perfection. Go the whole hog and plump for the eight-course tasting menu, which perfectly showcases Wishart’s skills, including exquisite dishes such as Black Angus beef, sliced pig’s trotter, squab pigeon and Calvados ganache."

Michelin restaurants Edinburgh: Four spots with a star in Scotland's capital
"What: ‘From nature to plate’ is the mantra of chef Tom Kitchin, and it’s a philosophy that you can see everywhere in his restaurant in Leith, The Kitchin. Natural materials such as slate and wood complemented by fabrics in cool blues and greys create a calming atmosphere for cooking that uses seasonal ingredients from regional growers, producers and fishermen. North Sea wild halibut, smoked to order on oak chips and served with parsley purée and horseradish cream potatoes, gives an idea of the level of accomplishment on offer."

The Michelin Star Restaurants of Edinburgh - The Luxury Editor
"Based in Leith and run by famed chef Tim Kitchin, The Kitchin opened in 2006 and claimed its Michelin star in 2007. Although the restaurant could ride on the success of Tom Kitchin alone, the food steals the show for every diner. Simple, straightforward and unfussy dishes are presented on the menu and there are no unusual ingredients just for the sake of it."

The Kitchin prides itself as a place which presents "modern British seasonal cuisine influenced by French cooking techniques". They do A la carte menus along with sample set lunches and chef's surprise tasting menus."

"This Alva street venue is a basement restaurant accessed via stone steps, winding foliage and fairy lights. Here, amongst cosy booths, low-lighting and tartan, you’ll feast in a rustic setting, with seasonal fare from a to-the-point menu arriving swiftly to your table. The intimate setting makes for a highly romantic date night destination and the presentation of the food is simply unrivalled, as is the soothing sound track to your dining that distracts from the chatter of other tables."

Find the perfect spot for a romantic meal with that special person
"The name "Forage and Chatter" proves fairly self-explanatory, if rather inaccurate. There is definitely an emphasis on foraged food in this wonderfully eccentric restaurant, but the chatter is often curtailed by the quality of the dishes. Decorated in a fairly rustic fashion with reclaimed wood furniture, tweed soft furnishings and dim and twinkling lighting, the interior is very comfortable and welcoming."

"Step into your dream, cheesy, American teen drama (*cough* Riverdale *cough*) in Edinburgh’s very own traditional late night diner just along from your Cowgate favourites such as Subway and Sneaky Pete’s. The Best Coffee in Edinburgh?
"Our final day involved trips to the National Museum of Scotland and Edinburgh Castle, so we concentrated our café search on the Old Town. As we vaguely hunted for souvenirs/bribes-for-the-grandparents-so-they-agree-to-look-after-the-children-for-a-week-again, we wandered past Deacon’s House. The site was established in 1788 as a workshop for the Brodie family, one of whom – “Deacon Brodie” – ended up being hung for housebreaking, crimes he often committed using the tools from his workshop."

"Having won Gordon Ramsay’s approval a few years ago for having the best dumplings in Scotland, Chop Chop was high on my list of eateries I wanted to visit and when I did, I wasn’t disappointed. In fact, I’ve been back more times than I can count. Not much to look at from the outside, and by no means flashy or modern inside, the food speaks for itself and I love everything about it."
